Ranks within the ATC
Cadet Corporal
Cadets are eligible for this after 12 months of service and ideally should be leading classification or above and have completed a weekend course. Corporals will often receive instructions from other cadet NCO’s and may be tasked with coordinating activities or supervising small groups of cadets.
Cadet Sergeant
Following good service as a corporal, cadets may be eligible for promotion to the rank of sergeant. They should also have completed a higher level weekend course. These NCOs will be tasked with more complicated roles and supervise larger groups or flights of cadets. They may also mentor cadet NCOs.
Cadet Flight Sergeant
To be eligible for the promotion to Flight Sergeant, a cadet should ideally be over the age of 16. Flight Sergeants will often be responsible for a whole parade of cadets and assist with the running of the squadron.
Cadet Warrant Officer.
The highest cadet rank is offered to those over the age of 18 and with exceptional commitment to the organisation. Often, they will assist other squadrons or help at events at a Wing level. Cadet Warrant Officer’s are frequently seen as an addition to the staff team and during their service, learn about the administrative functions of the squadron. They also control the whole cadet NCO team.
From September 2010, all cadets over the age of 18 will be known as ’Staff Cadets’. Currently they are known as ’Instructor Cadets’ and this is written on their rank slides, worn on the shoulder.
